  • 47 Champ brake self-adjustors

Hey guys, I took my rear brakes apart and noticed on one side of the car, the self-adjuster tip was different than the other. One tip had a spring up the middle and the other side was solid. I've noticed you can buy replacements where both are solid and, SI sells replacements with springs in the middle. The repair manual for this car is not too clear. Any body out there got any wisdom to pass along on this?

The only thing I can tell you is all four of mine are solid on my 48.

I have redone the brakes on several 47-52 cars which all used these adjusters. All mine have been solid. The style with the coil spring was used on early 47 and was replaced sometime in 47 and forward with the solid style and the torsion style spring that goes with them. I am guessing they replaced them as the earlier style did not hold up as well but I do not really know. I would go with the solid style if I had a choice.
