Gentlemen;
So I pulled the 232 V-8 out of my 54 Commander and replaced it with a 55 259. Had the 259 totally redone and engine runs strong. Am using the Bendix 2 barrel off of the 232. Carb was rebuilt. When we put the 259 in we also replaced the fuel pump with an electric one mounted to the frame above the fuel tank so the hose goes up to the pump rather than down as it used to be. Not sure if this is the problem but when the engine is cold it starts fine and runs ok but when it reaches operating temp the car stalls at idle like when I am coming off a freeway off ramp coming to a stop, It starts right away but to keep this from happening I have to turn the idle up to about 800 in park so it will be 550rpm in drive and I know this is way to fast as it really slams into gear. This is either a carb problem or the fuel pump is wrong. I checked the fuel pressure at the carb and it is 5.5 psi. I put a regulator on it and set it to 4.5psi but this made no difference. I am thinking of replacing the carb or going back to the mechanical pump or am I way off base. Your thoughts would be helpful.
Thank You: Mark
