  • Speedometer Gear Question

OK, I'll start off by admitting I should know the answer, but on the premise there are no dumb (well almost) questions, here goes:

The current speedometer gear in my transmission has 18 teeth and the speedometer reads about 10% less than the actual road speed (so 50 on the speedo = 55 in reality). I am thinking that I need a speedo gear that has 10% more teeth or 20 instead of 18 to provide a more accurate indication of my actual speed. Is this correct? or do I have it backwards?

BTW the transmission is a T-86 with OD. Thx.

Logic... You need the cable to go faster, ie., fewer teeth.
