What is this trans out of? It has a bolt on rear yoke. Is it 56-58 half ton behind a 185? Or is it old car?

According to the manual, Top shifting T-90's were only put in RH drive trucks. [8)]

Interesting. So, does that make this trans out of a postal truck? What years? The motor is 56-58, and I thought maybe the motor trans originated together.

Don't forget that Studebaker sold many vehicles overseas - and many countries outside NA still drive on the left side of the road.

By postal truck, do you mean a Zip Van? If so, all the Zip Vans were automatics.

If it's a Studebaker T90 with a top shift, it could be a M-series truck transmission. Or, a T90 that someone swapped the M-series (or Jeep or Scout) top shifter onto.

But there's no provision for a side shifter, so I thought this had to come only with the top shifter. Top cover only; no side cover. I guess I need to post a pic.

I was at the International Meet we had in Orlando many years ago. There were two very knowledgeable members (now deceased) discussing a top shifter with overdrive that a parts vendor had for sale. I overheard one tell the other that they were offered in fleet vehicles and taxi's. I don't know tranny #'s very well, but Borg Warner supplied Willis, Kaiser-Jeep, and International Harvester as well.
