  • Coil

I just discovered that my coil is HOT, I mean to the touch. Could it have been wired wrong. I disconnected the battery. The car has not run today.

This is another issue by the $10 an hour guy.

did you have the key on without the engine running? Or did you have it on "acc" to listen to the radio and somehow the coil got wired up to the "acc" side of the ignition switch?

do you have the right coil and ballast resistor?

Might be time for a new set of points. Sometimes they get pretty burned when that happens for a substantial amount of time.

Bill, It is quite normal for the coil to get hot when the switch is left on and the points are closed. It is designed to operate with intermittent current, not full time. As GTtim said, look at the points, actually just go ahead and replace them, they will be burnt.
