Roy, thanks for following up. I took the device apart to learn how it works. Obviously the dog is out of position. Made the correction and adjusted the rods to the transmission and all is well.

Is it possible that the rods going to the transmission are reversed/swapped?

'50 Champion Transmission Adjustments
I'm installing the transmission shifting components and I'm not clear on the operation of the shift control box on the top of the steering column. In a forum search I find information on adjusting the length of the shift rods using Gage No. J-1308. This is not what I'm looking for. Moving the shift lever at the steering wheel doesn't move the control box levers in a correct manner, weather in the lower or upper position. Basically, I'm unable to shift transmission gears from inside the car. Any input would be appreciated.
