  • WW backdraft question

    My '58 259 still has the Stromberg backdraft. There's also 2 other backdrafts here. The original one from the '58 has a 'plunger' thingy on it that the throttle linkage bumps into at idle. The other 2 carbs have this piece missing. It almost looks like a vacuum advance can.

    So, my question is, what is it, and what's it for?

    Probably a dash pot. Later automatic cars had one to let it return to idle a little slower.

      Thanks Dick, I guess that makes sense. The '58 is an automatic, whereas the other 2 carbs came off manual trans equipped Studes.
