  • Wheels / Tires: Brake Drums

Rear brake drums for 1959 Lark wagon six cylinder car. Part number is 1542158. I have checked all the usual parts vendors. Would be great if you were in Canada. Car has original Dana 23 axle with 3:73 ratio.
Would anyone have a substitute from any other vehicle? They are 10 X 2 brake drums and I don't require hubs. Thanks very much.

Just from my (hazy) memory I think all of the late-model Studebakers with 6-cyl engines came with 9" brakes in the rear (10" front, 9" rear). If you have 10" drums in back then either I'm wrong (often happens), or you have rear brakes from a V8 (probably 289) car (11" front, 10" rear).

BTW, an upgrade to the 11" front, 10" rear brakes would be a very good upgrade.

Try this Rockauto link, I've found they have a surprising number of Studebaker parts:

If you find something that works, check with me first. I bought brake shoes all around and didn't use them because the old shoes were unworn and had a much closer arc to the drums than the new ones. I have a Hawk, but sometimes the parts can be the same

I am in Alberta, and I have a bunch of rear axles and drums. Even have some 10" by 2" relined shoes on hand. Your axle: flanged or tapered? Tapered axles. the drum and hub are swaged together. Flanged, the drum is removable from the axle flange. I am almost certain to have 10' drums for tapered axles; 10" drums for a flanged axle, not so sure. A photo of your old drum would help. I do have a brake lathe, so I can clean up drums that are within spec.

Where did you find them, and what was the part number?

Edit: Never mind. I see from your other post (below) you found them at KG Studebaker Parts as ColoradoHawk suggested above in post 6 above.
