  • Looking for Horn Ring

    The horn ring for our 62 Hawk is broken at the left hand corner. I have tried JB Weld, and other epoxies, but they won't hold. Any suggestion from anyone on how to repair it? Or perhaps does anyone have a horn ring I can replace mine with? I'm not sure of the part number, but what appears to be a part number appears on the horn ring... that number is 1556991.

    Thanks all.

    I don't think the '62s had a horn ring at all... at least my '62 Daytona did not. the steering wheel is the one with the same "square" horn ring as 63-66 but it just had the two chrome bars that covered the spokes of the steering wheel. That said I *think* I have a replateable core of the 63-66 style horn ring if you want it, if you would be interested let me know and i'll dig it out and see if my memory is correct

      Nate;

      If I can't repair this ring (which this is the second time around) I would be interested in the ring you have. This steering wheel and horn ring are the same as my 63 Champ, so perhaps you have a point that this is not the original steering wheel.

      Oh and by the way, the horn ring on the Champ is broken in the same place! I guess the ring gets a work out if one is driving with the right hand and does a panic honk a little overboard with the left hand!!

      Which now gets me to thinking... if the Hawk was original with a single center horn button or just a horn button with wings on it, it may be better to go with something like that so when my wife and daughter drive the car, the ring won't break again.

        The *steering wheel* is the same... just the horn ring is different.

          M-

          check out Dick S's "free stude parts" thread in the general forum. I think I see in there a '62 horn bar. I haven't had a chance to look and see if I have the 63-66 style horn ring that I think I have yet.

            Nate's right -that horn bar is off a '62 Hawk I had and is in pretty decent condition.
