  • Engine: starter tooth count

How many teeth are on the starter drive of a starter for the 162 tooth V8 flywheel (ca 1956-58) with manual transmission?

IIRC, both the 6 volt and 12 volt V8 starters have the same number of teeth - 9. The difference is that the 12 volt drive is smaller in diameter, maybe about an inch.

The armature on the 6 Volt starter has a larger shaft, so the 12 Volt starter drive will not just "slide" right on. I'll take a look at the difference between 6 & 12 volt drives, once I get over to my storage unit.
