  • Where is the best carpet

Has anybody had a good experience ordering a new carpet set?
    Who supplied it?
Which is correct for a '62 Hawk, loop pile or cut pile?

    thanks

How much do you want to spend? Historic (JDP here) sells several "grades" of carpet for a GT, or you could go for the gusto and order a 100% correct set from Phantom. I have no experience with SI's carpet (because JDP lives less than 20 miles from me) so I can't comment.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to give JDP a try. The previous owner used SI and he didn't do a superior job of installation and some of the seams are breaking loose. Then his cat did a number on it and I can't get the smell out. I'm hoping JDP does a better seam job.

Many years ago (20+) my dad bought a carpet set for his 64 GT, and it
was total crap. The carpet was so thin you could see through it. I
doubt the company is still in business. It didnt fit right, & started
to fall apart within a year. It looked OK for one National Meet.

The front carpet in the Avanti was replaced at sometime, probably when
it was "restored" in the 80's. The rear carpet is faded, but its not
torn. Anyone found a decent black carpet dye?? A new carpet is WAY
              down on the list.

I installed a carpet on my 63 hawk a few weeks ago --bought from JDP. Fit was very good. Only problen was lack of directions. When I put in the back floor piece, the rear seat steel support was showing,so I decides to paint the area flat black---then I found another supplied piece that was cut to cover that area. Then all looked really super!!. Glue it down with Scotch adhesive, both underlayment and carpet, except over master cylinder fill hole. Also,be sure to order the color. There ar different colors of blue!!

The big brown truck arrived today and delivered new carpet from JDP. I haven't installed it yet but it looks like better stuff than what the previous owner had put in. I think I made a good choice. I hope it fits as good as it looks.

I found some fabric dye at Walmart for 1.97, it was enough to one half
of the rear carpet. I took a couple pictures along the way, and when
I finished. Easy enough to apply with a brush - dabbing it on. Dont
know how long it'll last, but it will look good tomorrow for the show.

                    And finished ...

You might want to consider cleaning up the ash receivers in the rear seating compartment and sill {threshold} plates also. I know you have been super busy. Just to let you know my first impression upon looking at the photos. jimmijim

For a Hawk, I have to say that the Speedster/Golden Hawk carpet is much nicer than the other carpets, it's a much heavier loop. Gives the car a classier look, very similar to some of the better German carpets. If you're not an originality buff, I'd suggest going that route.

                          Jimmijim,

Just not enough time. Redyeing the carpet took a few hours all said
and done, looked great at the show though. Doors stayed closed, ash
trays? There are ash trays?? Do they speakers that fit the holes?

Matt ... funny guy ... I was joking, the older cars came with SO many
ash trays! I think I can put some tweeters there, & drop some 8 inch
speakers in the rear package shelf. I have no need for ash trays.

Not even cars smoke in California.
