  • Transmission / Overdrive: Hawk Transmission fluid

I know you can check and add fluid if you pickup carpet but can it be checked from underneath if on a lift?
carpet is pretty nice and hate to mess with it.

Sorry to say,but you can't check it from below. There is an acces cover that may be available from a STUDEBAKER vendor, that will make it an easier job once installed.

The other option is to convert your Hawk to an underhood dipstick system.

Is there a kit for that?

No kit. You use the parts (pan, dipstick tube, dipstick, bracket) from a V8, AT, Studebaker that has an underhood dipstick.

Used parts will be a lot cheaper and work just as well.
I would rather just put the access plate in the carpet (or even lifting the carpet a couple of times per year).

I am sure they would be but where would I find them and what exactly do I need?
I assume pan , tube stick and bracket but what year and model?

ALL of the necessary Parts are listed in Post #5, look them up in your '59 to '64 Chassis Parts Catalog to have the correct Part Numbers for a '62 to '64 GT Hawk 62V-K6, 63V-K6 or '64V-K6.

They will not ALL be available New, that is why Gary's suggestion of Used is better.

Stephen Allen's Auto is the other, large Studebaker parts dealer. They are in Florida and easily found on the internet. They sell used parts as well as new.
