I am going to polish the seal surfaces (the lathe will spin it nicely) and I have another set of seals being shipped. I'd still like to know more about the Quad/X seals but the McMaster Carr catalog doesn't show anything (that I can find) that would be suitable.

I polished the seal surfaces using 2000 grit paper with WD 40 (great suggestion) and then used a cloth with rubbing compound. It is reassembled and the steering is operational and no leaks......so far.....I hope I am not tempting a negative outcome down the road.

I have the same problem on my 63 Avanti, You mention the parts are available from CJ pony parts, are you saying they are the same as a Mustang then, if so is the part # i need? https://www.cjponyparts.com/power-st...64-1970/p/CVK/
Surely if that is the case they can be bought from any Vendor selling Mustag parts or even Rock Auto, Does anybody know if they also fit anything else like Full size fords

I'd forgotten where I had bought the parts........but I thought I might have bought them on Amazaon, and my faulty memory was better than I thought. Use this term to search for the kit.

My guess is that the wear parts you need will be in there. Good luck

I will say this again....read earlier comments....Ford parts for the power steering control valve WILL NOT FIT. Studebaker Bendix control valves uses a different diameter spool valve and housing.

Looks like a great site, let us know if they have the right kits for our Studebakers.

You might google ZATKOFF SEALS & PACKINGS I have been able to find really oddball things from them. They claim over 200,000 part numbers in stock.

So will their control valve kit fit the Avanti then?

They list two different sizes of seals, perhaps the pre-Mustang kits may fit. Use due diligence, and measure your spool valve BEFORE ordering anything.

1953champcoupe , how is your repair holding up? I'm on my annual replacement of the seals. Mine was rebuilt by Dave Thiebault, but once a year, it starts leaking. I can delay the inevitable by removing the cap and draining the excess oil, but I'd love to have a permanent fix. I'm wondering if your polishing is the key to success.

One I got all of the little things fixed on the car it went up for sale. My inlaws are aging and my MIL wanted at least one of the extra cars gone, my FIL was happy that it had a new home with a caring owner I'd like to believe it still is working just like new
