Cool/Heat: Heater Hose Question

I finally had some time to see if I could track down a new coolant leak tonight in my 1965 Daytona. Tracking the leak down was easy, it was on the bottom of the heater hose.

Being new to Studebaker ownership, but not new to working on cars, I was curious if this connection setup is normal for this car?

No, that setup is definitely not original. Someone has cobbled in a different water control valve in place of the original Ranco thermostatic control valve.

But that's not necessarily a bad thing. I have a similar setup on my '54 and it works fine.

Thanks for confirming that. Once I got it apart and looked inside, it's pretty corroded and doesn't look like it stops any water from moving. Is the below part from Studebaker International what I should replace it with?



I need to replace it no matter what since the one in the photo split in two while I was trying to put it back together last night.

Yes, that's the correct one for your car.

That IS the Correct Valve however you will need to convince a Forum Member to give up one of their '62-'66 Spare Control Valve Mounting Brackets to the Dash Mount, yours looks to be missing.

You will also need the short 6-7 Inch 90 Degree "Jumper Hose" that goes between the Valve Output and the Core Input.
The Valve Input Hose comes from the Upper "Hot" Side of the 283 V8.

Look at the day’s forecast, plan ahead and set the valve accordingly is what I did on the Champ. And that had the right Ranco valve with a sticky cable...
