Transmission / Overdrive: BW T-10 Transmission rebuild
I am in the process of repairing/rebuilding the T-10 B Transmission in my '53--with R/1 engine (you might have seen it in the October TW Custom and modified article). When I finally was able to drive it, I discovered that it shifts OK but will pop out of 2nd when let off. It also has a whine in 4th. I posted photos of the synchronizers. The leading edges are worn slightly round but nothing broken. Do the gears look bad enough to replace? I don't know if the synchronizer sliders are available. The shifting forks and the corresponding slider slots are worn quite a bit. I will replace anything needed but don't want to spend money needlessly. Any advice?

The synchronizer Brass Rings are completely shot, the Gear synchronizer teeth in Pic #1 aren't pretty, but should be OK, not so much in Pic #2.
Because this T-10 is either close to a Chev. ('61/'62) OR a Ford ('63/'64) the Parts (Gears) should be at T-10 Parts & Chev. or Ford obsolete Dealers and some at Studebaker Vendors as well.StudeRich

That transmission was abused. Replace the main shaft gears with the rounded steel synchromesh teeth. A whine in fourth direct drive means all bearings should be replaced. And replace all four brass blocking rings. 1963 and prior Chevy used the same parts. Beware there are two ratios used, something like 2.20 and 2.50.

I have been in contact with Bruce at The Gear Box. I can get all the new gears and rebuild parts. They put together a kit with most of the usual parts and also have available the new gears. For only a few hundred $ I can get all I need. Thanks for the input.1967 Riviera, 1964 Avanti R/2-R5096, 1953 Champion-R/1,4spd, Two 1967 Studebaker Gravely tractorssigpic
