    Hello all,
does anyone know the recommended idle speed for a 185? Is it the same as the 170- around 550 RPM?
    thx,

Well, I guess it got moved, because it is in Tech Talk.
As far as the answer, I am pretty sure it is, based on an old Motors manual, I don't have a factory manual older than 1959. My 185 OHV is happier at 650. Part is the stroke, I am sure, but I also have a warmed up cam.

I don’t think I’ve ever used a factory setting for my idle on any of my cars.

Once it’s warm and I’ve made sure the timing and idle fuel is adjusted correctly, I simply lower the idle as low as it can go while still actually running and not stumbling, then maybe turn in 1/2 - 1 turn maybe till it’s smooth and that’s it?
