  • Interior: 1951 Champion Kick Panels

How did Studebaker attach the kick panels?

The rears end has screws into the tacking strip on the door jamb. The front gets tucked into the space between the firewall pad and the cowl.

And I believe those screws are usually oval-head countersunk trim screws with stainless countersunk washers.

I have to disagree. Those stainless countersunk washers were/are a favorite of re-upholsters, but I think the factory went with something that was less obtrusive and blended in.

My vote is with Rockne10 on the presence of those stainless washers. Our car was never reupholstered and yet they were present when i disassembled the interior.
I will admit, Roy, that the Body Parts manual doesn't call them out.

But they ARE very small, and unobtrusive. Probably a No. 6. Click image for larger version

All I can say is that the original interior in my 50 Commander convertible did not have them.
