Can someone tell me where to find a 6 volt alternator for my 50 Champion?

What are the advantages of using an alternator?

What about the fact that the car is a positive ground?

I'd check out this web site and have a word with Mr. Rundle who has a lot of expertise with auto electrical systems.

I have one of Randy's 6 volt alternators in my '51 and the improvement in my car's electricals is pretty dramatic. I would also suggest the headlamp circuit relay along with the correct brackets for your alternator install.

An internet search for "6 volt alternators" will produce several sources, some with positive gnd. units available. I have purchased two of them. You also can get wide pulleys for the older style fan belts.
