  • Ignition: New Distributor and wires

I'm pretty sure the old Autolite distributor in my 62 GT is tired. The vacuum advance is not functioning and I'm having performance issues that I can find no other reason for.

I've heard of some good reports about some after market distributors, made in China of course, one is by Top Street Performance part #
    JM7733BK-F-BK45K-CW

Has anyone used these and can report on reliability etc ? Other options?

Also, on an earlier post there was mention of properly separating the plug wires, #5 and #7 specifically. Can anyone expand on "properly separated"? Does everyone use the newer 8mm plug wires now?

    Thanks.

Properly separated means that you don't have #5and #7 in the same clamp. When clamping the wires on the left side, clamp wires #1and #5 together. Clamp #3 and #7 together.
