Can anyone tell me what went in this above the speedometer?

Map light. Vendors have the replacement plastic lens. The light socket may be there, can't tell from the picture.

I believe that is the interior light comes on when you open the door?

I am not sure if ALL '50 champions have it there or only certain models.

I believe all Champions and Commanders through 1952.

There's nothing in it now, I do have buttons in the door so I'd imagine it had one.

          thanks everyone

Should be wired in conjunction with the dome light above the rear back light.

The custom model of the 1950’s did not have the light above the speedometer. Just the deluxe and regal deluxe at least in the champion series.

On a '51 or '52, you TWIST the Headlight In & Out Switch beyond Bright Instruments, to manually Light the Map Light and Dome Light, but I am not sure if a '50 Champion would have that due to completely different Switches.

On a '50 the map light is controlled by the instrument light switch. Pull out to the second position. And no, the custom doesn't have a map light.

This might sound stupid, but I don't know what model I have, I've only had a couple of months. It seems to well equipped, it has OD, under seat heater. How can I determine what it actually is?

Under the hood on the passenger side of the firewall there is a tag that gives you the model number.

First Off, there are these '50 Champion BODY Types: 2 Door Sedans, Starlight Coupes, Business Coupes, Convertibles, and 4 Door Sedans.
We don't know which you have.

Then there are the Trim Levels, they mostly affect the Interior Quality and completeness on 1950's.

Unless he has bought another car, there's a pic in another thread. Appears to be a 2 door Champion Sedan.
We will still need the body tag numbers to determine which trim. Link below...
