  • Front Axle / Front Suspension: Building a 1949 1/2 ton 2R5. What is the rake angle for that truck?

    Hi,

first time on the site. Getting ready to install a Mustang IFS 2 front end suspension on my 1949 2R5.
Anyone knows what is the stock rake for these truck? I am trying to keep it at the same height and rake.

    thanks

    Eric

Welcome to the SDC forum. Assuming standard rear springs and same size tires, should be level. The distance between the center line of the rear axle to the ground (unloaded) should be 27 3/8". Heavy duty rear springs will raise the rear end when unloaded and give a rake.

Eric, search this forum. There are better suspensions to transplant than the Mustang. The Ford Aerostar comes to mind.

I bought the kit from Helix. I know some members already used that kit and seem pretty happy with it. The first thing that hit me when the kit was delivered, on every single box, the words "MADE IN CHINA". The welds are not very good quality and now not sure if I should just keep going or look for something else. Already too late to return.

        Thanks for you replies.

Just a thought -- this subject has been discussed many times before, on both this forum and Stude Truck Talk. In fact, there was a recent discussion of the Aerostar conversion kit pretty recently on STT. You might try a search there to see if you can learn anything useful.

Hi ecarbonneau , and welcome! In future, please be sure to post technical questions in the Tech Talk channel. I've moved this one over.

            Thanks!
