  • Transmission / Overdrive: Chattering clutch and grinding gears

My friend Warren has a 1951 Champion. He just had a mechanic re install an engine, put in an electric fuel pump and other work. He got the car back and now the clutch chatters really bad and won't go into 1st gear without bad grinding or will not go unless engine is cut off.. What can I tell Warren to tell the mechanic that will fix this?

First adjust clutch pedal for 1" free travel. Check linkage adjustment.First gear is not syncronized and you have to be damn near stopped to engage it. Check transmission oil level.
