Is it possible that the car has a 12 volt solenoid on it?

Here is a question we have not asked or answered.

Was the car starting and running before the re-wiring project started?

The car was running before, and still is now. Just always need to jump the small terminal with power. Tried switching the heavy cables, but still the same. Maybe both solenoids I have are the wrong ones, so I will look for a new new one and try that. Thanks all for the suggestions.

So I guess it was the wrong solenoid after all after all these years. Found a different one and now all works as it should. Guy at the local auto parts store looked it up in his catalogue and 6V ones could come either way. One small problem solved
