oil pump idler staff replacement

I check the search and can't find a thread on it.
The oil pump in my 59 259 needs new gears,the kit I got from dave tbo has the two gears and a new idler gear shaft,seeing how worn my drive gear shaft is worn I want to change the fixed shaft.
My idea is to press out the old and press in the new one . Dose anything else have to be done eg. heat the oil pump body or stake the shaft after pressing?
Shop manuel dosen't cover it.
Is there anything I should Know befor I try this?

One thing you NEED to do before you go to all that work....
Check the pump housing drive gear bore. I've seen more than a few with a heavilly gouged and worn bore.

If it's too bad, pressure will be lost out of the too large a hole and the bad bore will eat up the new parts in a hurry.

Two fixes -
1. Get a better housing.
2. Have your housing bored and a bushing pressed in and honed to size.

As for pushing out the old pin...just push it out and back in again...slowly.
Heating the housing to get it out...you'll be heating both parts!!
Heating to reinstall...sure, you can do that and or freeze the pin to install it.

I checked the bore ,it's good.The pump worked fine ,But when I put the two .005 feeler guages I could turn the gears.I just want to change the shaft because it came with the kit.

The last 3 I've done, I just pressed out the old and in with the new. No heating necessary.
