  • Electrical: Which is the armature terminal?

'51 Champion, Autolight generator, is the armature terminal closest or furthest from the block? Thank you.

On a 6 Volt Positive Ground Autolite System, the Large10 Ga. White Wire is the Armature, the Field should be a White with Black Tracer smaller 14 Gauge.
Many generators have an "F" and an "A" stamped next to the Terminals.

Make sure they match at the Voltage Regulator, and be sure to Polarize the system if it has been disconnected.

Armature terminal usually (almost always) is a larger diameter stud than the field. And quite often the case of the generator is stamped "A" and "F", or "ARM" and "FLD", but the stamped letters can be obscured by dirt.

The wires are taped up. I should be able identify the larger one.
