R1 engine run-on, death rattle, won't shut down without dieseling...

    For run-on to occur there must be ignition and fuel, firstly you have to determine the form of the ignition source, most probably hot carbon inside the cylinder head. There are procedures to remove the carbon. To remove the fuel will only mask the problem it will stop the run-on but will cause other problems, the carbon has to be dissolved and removed.

      Agree. Back when this was the Studebaker Drivers Club and Studes were driven like actual cars, the Italian Tune Up was the prescription. Find an open stretch of road where it could be safely done so and accelerate from 50 MPH to 100 MPH for a dozen times and the carbon was gone. Lot's more fun than sea foam.
