  • Engine: engine serial number mystery

I have a 1960 Lark VI , not sure if it a 170 or 185. The engine number is ----ready for this-- I 206694 , that's right a Capital I, not a one Click image for larger version

ID:	1815251 . Appears to be an average 170 type . any ideas??? Not in any Studebaker listing I can find. Thanks!!

Studebaker always used a capital I in place of a "1". It should be interpreted as a ONE. And registered as such on the vehicle title.

      That would be a 1957 185 engine.

No Mystery, if you have any "1"s in your Serial Number, you will see the same thing on the Serial Number Plate on the Left Door post.

Notice you used a capital "I" in the name of your car model. Same, same. Maybe we should call them Roman numeral "one."

Thanks!!! What confuses me is that all other numbers beginning in a number 1 is an identifiable number 1, not capital letter I , not that it really matters. I do have the correct "S" serial number engine for the 60 year to install at some point , but the 185 in it is fresh rebuild .060 so will last some time. again thanks to all!
