  • Fabricating new brackets for turnsignals '48 Champ

It is quite a task to assemble the parts necessary to add factory accessory turnsignals to a '47-49 Champion. The rear lights are easy enough. They are already built-in to the taillight housings. But the fronts require their own unique housings, replacing the stock potmetal grille bars. I located the needed turnsignal grille bars at the Turlock swap meet years ago. (Actually found out later it was the late Steve's of Napa that sold them to me.) One broken lens. Searched years for that. But the light sockets, brackets, and wiring were not present. Unobtainium. Finally bought a junky grille bar off eBay

because it had the (rusty) socket intact, just so I could get a look at it. The first one I'd seen.

A socket with unique bracket attached.

    Bought a couple of these:

Turned them over to the great Lavon "Doc" Erickson, founding member of our local chapter, and wonderful metal caster, crafter, etc.
This is what he made for me:

And this is how they fit:

    Thanks Doc!

Now, what was that discussion a year or two ago about what color to paint inside light housings--silver or white[?][?][?]

Which one will give off more light[?]

From personal experience(trial and error) White seems better to me.
