  • Brakes: grabbing brake

I finally solved the problem of my left front brake locking up on my 57 commander.I wound up replacing the wheel cylinder, springs and brake hose,I suspect the problem was just the cylinder but while I was into it I figured do the whole job.The brake hose was only about 4 years old, when I get a chance I will do the right front, can't take a chance with a single line master cylinder.

Glad to hear that you got it figured out. I guess the lesson to be learned is that you can't always trust new, or slightly used parts.

My 58 Packard has been doing the same thing and continues to do so even with a change of cylinder and shoes. Never thought that springs might be a little weak after 62 years. Duh! Thanks for the info; when things thaw out again up here it gets new front springs. (gives me all winter to try to find them) Thanks again
