    what treatment is used to flush out the rad.&block
    before putting in antifreeze? Would running fresh
    water thru the rad.while engine is running & rad.
    drain cock open help at all?

    The best method to my knowledge is to back flush, using any of those fine kits that can be inserted in the heater hose. Which, IMO, should then be replaced by a new heater hose, so things look stock again. Although it may be possible to make up a hose and adapter to connect to the block and then the heater hose, rather than cutting the hose.

    The hoses should be replaced regularly anyway to reduce the chance of unexpected failure.

      I've always used S-P Cooling System Cleaner and Neutralizer. I have found it to work good, without cutting any hoses. Follow the directions. It is still available from your friendly Studebaker vendors.
