i have what seems to be a 1954 232ci serial #303276 the embrossed number on the heads is #527644 are theses in fact 54 or are they not if not what year are they - thanks - alf

That serial# is wrong. It should have a "V" prefix to it. The serial# is STAMPED into the upper, front, left corner of the block on a '53-54 232. It's stamped back near the distributor hole on 51-52 232s[:I].

This site lists Studebaker head casting numbers:

However it doesn't list the number you have.

The 527644 casting number that you said was on the heads is actually the block casting number. The cylinder head casting number should be located just above the center exhaust ports, and is probably 535107, although that's not the only possibility.
Biggs already nailed the year. It's 232 cubic inch displacement with 120 advertised horsepower.

Well, I hadn't REALLY "nailed it" - I only pointed out where the serial# might be found. This number you've given (V303276) defines it as having started life under the hood of a '54 Commander of some sort.[^]
