just FYI the water pump mounting bolts are through holes as well so those bolts also get copper washers.

Thanks, guys!! Funny, I actually have ONE of those asbestos/ copper washers I found from an old gasket kit. Looks like I need to get some copper washers and a gasket.
    Thanks again! Matt

What JDP said. I believe they were asbestos filled copper rings originally, but good luck finding those. Plain annealed copper washers should be fine.

Yes, washers and gasket. I've been doing a slow teardown on my '64 289, and my valley pan had both (and no silicone).

    Valley Pan Bolts- washers??

    Hi All-
Reinstalling the valley pan on my 289(in 63 Hawk). Should there be any washers under the bolt heads? The fellow who had rebuilt this motor last time had none, and used only silicone to seal them, including the PCV "chimney"(or whatever you call that thing...). Should there be a gasket under that as well?

    Thanks!
    Best Regards- Matt
(not sure I'll have her back together in time for Lancaster...lots left to do...ugh)
