  • 259 rebuild - Ring Gap

    block was bored .030

Grant rings out of the pack run .020 to .021 gap
This car is not a hot rod, it is a driver.

Install the rings or look for something with tighter fit?

    opinions?

I'd run them. You're only talking maybe 5 to .006 over minimum.

      Will it run...sure.
Will it run as well...for as long as it "could"....no.

My best running engines always had tight gaps. One reason I use C&A or Total Seal, zero gap rings when ever possible.

I would go tighter...but it's not my engine.

Where do you get zero gap rings?

Do you have to have a special tool to file, or can you file by hand?

            As noted -

            1. Childs and Albert (one basic design)
            2. Total Seal (two designs, with material options)

I've got a disc ring filer...but prefer to do it by hand. Beside...doing it by hand gets me a coupla new files every time I file rings! I use a new mill (fine) file every set.

Ask for the rings by ring size (dia. depth, thickness)...not a Studebaker.
