  • silver hawk engine swap

    hallo,

i am thinking about taking out the engine of a 57 silver hawk flathead six.
the only thing is, the other engine is an 1962 OHV six.

Is this an easy swap or do i need to change a lot?

Both the transmissions are 3sp manual with OD

should be an easy swap. My first car was a 59 Lark w/ the flathead. When i got a cracked valve seat, i swapped in a OHV from a 61 taxicab that was in the wrecking yard. Swap on that went real smooth, but one thing cropped up later. The valve cover went under the lip of the firewall & i imagined i would have to lift out the engine to adjust the valves. Your Hawk shouldn't have that problem, so it should be a slam dunk. Just make sure you use the bellhousing from the 62 engine & just in case, I would measure it w/ a dial indicator to make sure the bellhosuing is within spec's, so you don't tear up input shaft bearings.
