  • Trunk mount battery progress

I added the battery disconnect and starter solenoid mount. Everything still must be polished out.

        Jim,

Very professional looking. Very clean. Please keep posting pictures as you make progress.

          Jim:

Is this what you are doing with the solenoid, ST-1 in the drawing, so that the heavy cable is only energized during cranking?

Yes, the starter solenoid is located at the battery in the trunk. I'm running separate power distribution to fuse blocks at the trunk, dash, and engine compartment. MAD Enterprises has some good ideas on their web site, but after 3 months of calling and not being able to speak to anyone to place an order, I gave up and struck out on my own.

I keep talking about me neighbor wh has some of his NHRS guys tryin to add a cowl mounted PB unit to my Hawk. On thing they want to do is put the battery in th trunk. During the week somebody suggested to be carefull as batteries give off hydrogen. Is there a danger with that?

The Optima batteries are dry cell. You can even mount them upside down. No gases when charged or discharged. A traditional wet cell would need to be vented.
