It's a made up name for a made up product [)]. I color sanded and buffed a '60 Lark wagon that still had the original paint on it.

      Before...

      After...

It came out so nice that Guido and Matthew figured I must have used a top secret product and named it "Lark Shine" (pat. pend.)

Old joke. It keeps coming up as somebody shines up an old, neglected Studebaker and makes it look presentable. Sorry about that.

I "color sanded" with 1500 grit wet paper. I just used the paper in my palm as opposed to the right way which would be to use a block. I sanded until the old, chalky paint was gone, but before I got into the primer (hopefully [:0]). Then this Makita...

            http://www.makita.com/menu.php?pg=product_det&tag=9227C

with a fairly aggressive wool pad

            along with this...

            http://www.meguiars.com.au/productde...subcat=&show=2

The Makita can get you into trouble quickly. It is quite powerful and unforgiving. Go over an edge wrong and you'll be down to shiny metal in no time.

I also have a Porter Cable random orbital buffer...

            http://www.deltaportercable.com/Prod...roductID=11080

I use this with a foam pad and less aggressive compound for milder jobs and for applying wax. You might start with something like this one. More work, but more forgiving too.

I know Jim Turner and probably others here are pros with far more experience than I have. Hopefully they will chime in here with better advice.

I was wondering about what Lark Shine was, also. Now I realize I have a bottle of it on the shelf next to ElboGrees.

As long as this is a thread about newbie (that's me) ignorance (that's me again) what is CASO?

Wow, love that before picture, Dick! Does Lark Shine work on seats or windlace?
