Got the pan off my 64 Hawk to fix oil leak and dropped rear main as per manual. I found the main seal hardened and had a heck of a time getting it out of the [u]cap</u>. I don't see how I can get the upper to come out around the crankshaft if its stuck like the lower half was. I backed off 2 turns on the other main caps as per manual but seal has a death grip on the crank. I haven't hurt the upper seal.
Should I leave the old upper half of the seal and just use the lower part of the new one. Not my first choice but I'm afraid I'll destroy the upper part of the seal and still not get it out which would mean pulling the crank completely. Help!!
