  • Avanti Power Windows

I have been having all sorts of problems getting the stock power window motors to work properly in my Avanti. I finally gave up with the stock motors and found some other motors that seem to work better. They are from a 90s ford taurus. I was also concerned with the motors over stressing the fiberglass door panel that are so prone to cracking. I replaced the stude motor and reducer with the ford motor and reducer unit. I also added limit switches to prevent over travel and further stressing the door panel (one going up and one going down). I didnt have switches when I got the car so I found some monentary double pole double throws that seem to work good. I also had to make a plate to mount them in. I just thought I'd show you guys that there are alternatives the the slow unreliable avanti power windows. These are now very fast, and almost as quick as a new car.

    Nicely done, Dan. Good post!

I think you could make money putting a "kit" together to do this.

I think offering a kit for this would be a great idea!

I thought about doing a kit, and I still might. I want to run it for a few months before I sell it to anyone. It should be on the road in a few days as soon as I get my brake booster in. An area of concern is when I, the driver, am pushing the switch down and the passenger is going up (or vise versa) it may crete a short. I will fuse the entire circut, and maybe add a resistor to "soak up" a short in the event of one switch going up and one down. The project went very smoothly, the only hard part was mounting the upper limit switch.
