  • Does a Saginaw GM trans mate...

I'm bidding on a car on e-bay and below is part of the description:
quote:Converted to 350 SB chev, no motor in car.. Comes with 3 speed overdrive Saginaw GM trans, mounts and exhaust manifolds for SB chev.
What is a SB chev motor? SB can't stand for South Bend? Will the transmission mount to a Stude motor?

    Lotsa Larks!

SBC = Small Block Chevy (265-400)

tranny may bolt up if you have the right bellhousing but you will need a custom pilot bushing to make the shorter, smaller dia. "snout" work. Also will need to retain the Chevy throwout bearing and clutch linkage.

By golly gosh! That's a real picnic, that is. As my swedish metal shop teacher would have said. What a mess. I think I'd rather stick with a Studebaker setup.
Thank you for the info Nate.

Ron, If you can pick it up cheap, grab it that 3 over Sag. tranny is gold if good. I used to buy them up and bolt the OD to Saginaw 4 speeds for a 4 OD. No adapters it just bolts right up. It won't take a lot of torque but it is one of the sweetest shifting trannys around.

If you're considering putting Stude power in the car that currently has this trans in it, I don't think it would be all that bad, really. but that's just MHO.
