  • brake lites

I installed new bulbs[1157] in my Avanti.Tail&turn signals ok,
but no brake lites! I put new switch on master cyl.
Also, where is the water supposed to drain from the hog troughs
when you pour it in the cowl? TKS.

Don't know anything about Avanti's, but I've been working for days on my '50's rear end lights. Make sure you have voltage on the switch input, then check for same on output. Then check voltage or continuity from switch to light assemblies. If there's a problem there, work your way physically back toward the switch through the wire. The voltage is live on mine without the key.

Next step on your brake lights will be to check the turn siginal switch and its harness. A test light is the prefered tool. The brake light circuit goes through the T/S switch. I had that identical problem with mine, and despite all the attempts to repair it, replacement was the cure. As for the cowl vent drain, remove the right side interior kick panel and dig the debris out from the vent you have exposed, and you'll find the drain hole. Yes it does drain into the hog trough. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dan.As far as the hog troughs are concerned.I was referring
to a post on this site a while ago by someone who stated that a way
to check the condition of the troughs is by pouring water down the
cowl vent,& noting where it drains from.Mine drained from the front
        of H/Tr.

There should be drain holes spaced along the underside of the hog trough. If there aren't any on yours, drill a few.
This is a pic of a replacement unit. I've heard of some not having holes.
