This is the info for a '50 6 cyl 169 ci flathead, Champion.

From the reference point that you are facing the block on the manifold side, number the bolts starting on the row closest to you and left to right with these numbers -- 19, 18, 17, 3, 2, 11, 12, 13. The middle row (next row away from manifold), left to right, -- 9, 6, 5, 1, 7, 8, 10. The row furthest from you, left to right, -- 22, 21, 20, 4, 14, 15, 16. Torque limit for the Champion is 46-50 ft. lbs. More info after the Commander numbers.

    For the Commander, from the manifold side, left to right, --21, 20, 19, 18, 3, 2, 11, 12, 13, 14. The center row, left to right, -- 9, 6, 5, 1, 7, 8, 10. The row furthest from the manifold, left to right, -- 24, 23, 22, 4, 15, 16, 17. Torque limit for the Commander is 80-85 ft. lbs.

Common info for both engines: re-torque a second time before starting engine. After warming up engine to 170 degrees F. retorque again.

      Bob:

Thanks for the information. This old engine is in a 1947 Willy's Jeep. I really like the engine but afraid I have a small leak in the head gasket which I want to replace. Do you know where I might get a shop manual for this engine. The Serial No. is 731057.
      Thanks again, Guy

I got mine on EBay. Tons of books for sale there. Can't remember his name, but it was a guy with a Studebaker store in Jupiter, FL.

You can find them on internet auctions or buy a new copy from many Stude vendors for $30.
