Can the governor be removed and serviced on a T86, 3 SP/ OD
with the transmission in the car ?

I am usually able to remove them with channel-lock pliers. Limit servicing to cleaning the oil out of them, and gently cleaning the contacts. I use a soft piece of cloth originally made for cleaning contact points in military communications equipment. A pencil eraser also works good. The contact points are soft, but durable. Be careful not to scratch them. It you want to decrease OD engagement speed, you can also GENTLY and ever so slightly bend the spring metal tang, but do not go over 1/32" or so at a time, till you get it where you want it. I used that method to tweak the one on the 62GT down to around 2500 RPM, instead of the usual 3000 or so.

The original Hot Rod Lincoln, that Charlie Ryan built, and wrote the song about, had a Lincoln V12 engine in it. The actual car has appeared in several magazine articles, and still exists.

Spin it with a electric drill. Use a current meter to check if it is working.

Greyben....that's a Lincoln! (or model A, depends on how you look at it ) You forgot the first line.

Of course, perhaps your Stude is similar, but with lower axle gears and seat belts. Nice!

I just removed and reinstalled the governor on my '55 using a pipe wrench.

yes....you will need a special wrench...I use a Gravely fan wrench ..........
