Have you checked to see if all the spark plug wires are in the correct order on the distributor and at the spark plugs?

      Are the valves adjusted properly?
Is the ignition timing adjusted (4 degrees higher than the book) ?
Are the spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor in good condition ?

Check that all of the spark plug wires were completely put back onto the plugs and also that the wires are on the correct plugs.

Remember that the Firing Order in the Distributor Cap is COUNTERCLOCKWISE.

Make sure #1 and# 5 plug wires and #3 and#7 are bundled together to prevent induction of energy between wires and crossfire.

When driving at lower speeds, what happens if you open the throttle to half open or more?
Is the back fire form the exhaust, or the intake ?

                Did it ever run well?
