Cool/Heat: Coolant leak 51 Champion - NEW DILEMMA

Pardon my ignorance but does anyone have any ideas as to why there would be coolant leaking on the other side of the oil pan? Several months ago I noticed some coolant on the garage floor. The other day, however, there was a trail. I know there are a couple of freeze plugs that need replaced but the worst one is near the starter. I did just discover that bolt missing when I took the picture which may play a role. Thoughts would be appreciated.

Probably leaking from the water pump.

Classic dying water pump syndrome. soon it may get noisy or loose.last symptom, fan falls off still attached to water pump shaft. Just ask my brother in law! Luck Doofus

Received a replacement water pump. It wasn't until after installation that I noticed the differences.

My dilemma is this
1. Grind off some excess width of the new pump body?
2. Add additional washers/spacers with a longer screw?
3. Try and obtain another replacement?

Is it the correct pump? The ones used in '54 and later were different from the 53 and earlier. The pump bodies are the same but the shaft is longer on the later ones (or vice versa?) . Is the engine in your car stock or is a later motor installed?

Yes, the engine is stock. I did specify to the vendor it was for a 51 Champion. Very possible they may have grabbed the wrong one. Wish I had been more observant before installing, though.

Double check your engine’s number with the shop manual; I just went through this with a friend’ 52 which actually had a 55 engine installed at some point.
