Well, it was apparantly the oil pressure relief valve. Dropped pan and everything seemed OK but removed and thoroughly cleaned pickup and put it back together. What a job to pull and service oil pressure relief valve on that little bugger! You have to support the engine, completely remove the right engine mount, and then you can, with great difficulty, get to it. You absolutely need that #12 drill bit. Took it out cleaned it up all shiney and put everything back together. Filled up with Rislone ZDDP (it may still be on sale at Walmart. for $5 a bottle-when you buy 8 you get free shipping) And Valvolene SAE 30. Started right up and 60psi oil pressure! Yahoo!

Seriously, I am just glad you got'er Done Jeff.
The only way that could happen would be if the Relief Valve Piston was seized in the Open position, blowing most of the Pressure into the Timing Gears.StudeRich
