  • Transmission: T-86 gear oil

Whats the latest and greatest oil for a T-86 , The Avanti shop manual says you can use 30wgt motor oil ? Should zddp be added to it ? since back when the manual was written almost all motor oil had zddp in it , Ed

The proper lubricant is GL-1 which is equivalent/similar to 90 weight mineral oil. It does NOT contain hypoid modifiers that attack the synchronizers.

Do NOT use GL-5, the stuff that goes into a non Twin Traction differential.

Napa doesn't have that oil on this side of the border. Someone recommended Penzoil Synchromesh for manual transmissions, which we can get. Can also apparently be used in the overdrive.

Tractor supply has GL-1, if you don't have that company there try places that cater to tractors. It's packaged specificly for old Ford tractors.

Bensherb is correct, NAPA didn't have it in stock and would take 4 or 5 days to get , But Tractor supply had it in stock marketed as said in the previous post. In 2 gallon containers $25.00 U.S. . Ed

Wherever you buy it, just INSIST on the GL-1 Rating Mineral Gear Oil.
