  • Engine: Which Head would be better?

I have a set of 535976 & 537555 and I'm trying to decide which set to put on a 259. Thoughts?

The 555s will be about a 1/2 point higher in compression. Still would be regular gas either way, but better performance. About 8.5 with a shim gasket. 8:1 with composition gaskets.

I expect from 7.5 to 8.5 is about a full point, if you want the factory rated H.P. unless it is Supercharged, do not use the 535976 Truck and '57-'58 GH Heads.

The difference of a full point would only be IF you used the thick head gasket on the 976 head, and the SHIM gasket on the 555. If you use the SAME TYPE gasket across the board, then the difference is 1/2 a point.
