  • Engine: Partial Flow Filter Orifice Fitting on 54 Commanders

The Parts book specifies a 530844 elbow fitting that screws into the port in the head. It is a weird two outlet fitting (one to filter and one to fuel pump). Does this fitting have the orifice built in? Is it a single orifice such that the fuel pump and filter lines are both being supplied by the same orifice or does each outlet have its own orifice?

    Thanks
    Wayne

It is a Special Studebaker Dual Fitting with 2 wide open Compression Nut Seats, no restriction, the restrictor is at the Filter Inlet.

The second Line only lubes the Push Rod to Fuel Pump Lever, I have run them thousands of Miles without that line that caused so much splash that my "Medium Worn" '52 Commander V8 and '54 Land Cruiser were blowing a Lot of Oil out of the breather Cap.

Thanks Rich. When this car was built the restrictor (orifice) fittings were left out. My current plan is to put a restrictor fitting at the oil filter and another at the fuel pump. The car has acceptable oil pressure as is with both lines un-restricted. The oil pressure is just not as good as in my Hawk. I am hoping that if I add the orifice fittings the oil pressure will come up a little more.

If it starts blowing oil out the breather cap, I may decide to remove the fuel pump line completely as you did on yours. Hopefully I won't have that problem since it is a fresh engine.

The restricted fitting for the oil filter is part #1549669 with an inside diameter of about .045" The fitting for the fuel pump is #530918 with an i.d. of about .030"

Follow up question about the "wide open compression nut seats" that Rich described. Is this the same type fittings as used on 3/16" brake line?
Were the lines from the fitting in the head to the filter housing and fuel pump hard metal line or flexible hose?

YES, using a Flared hard line is the ONLY way you can use the Compression Nuts and Seated, Female Fittings.

Not sure about the size, maybe 3/16.

Thanks Rich. I never have been able to keep up with all the different terms and descriptions used for the various types of tube and hose connections.
