  • Paint: GT Hawk hood painting ??

I know the GT hood is supposed to be painted black behind the grille. When I painted my hood years ago I painted that part black. Then today as I was watching my screen saver pictures, I saw this. What do you think?

Perhaps an early pilot production picture.
I have owned a few Gran Turismo Hawks, back when they were maybe 8 to 10 years old and thus pretty original.
They all had satin black paint on the sheet metal feature from the earlier Hawk grille that shows through the ‘62 - ‘64 grille.
We see a lot of repainted Hawks where the grille is removed for a total repaint thus showing this painted band if not painted satin black again.

I think that is a very early/prototype '62 Hawk. Look at the bumperettes.

I installed an aluminum radiator in my Sky Hawk, and painted the front of it semi gloss black...to avoid being able to see it behind the grille...

Actually, I think it's a reflection from the flash camera. It wasn't a flat black, but semi-flat that can still reflect light. It sure doesn't look as bright as the white of the car to me.

I think Bez is right. That sure doesn't look white to me.

I agree, I'm not seeing white either.

Boy, I just noticed what I wrote in the original post. I corrected it. I did paint my grille area black.
