What is the fitting for the passenger side rear head just opposite the temperature lead/bell crank? Anyone know where to hook a tach onto a 289?

It's normally occupied by a blank-off plate. Studebaker right-hand and left-hand heads are identical. The ports are made so the water manifold can connect to the heads.
The head used on the left side gets a plate with tapped hole for the temp sender; the head used on the right gets a blank-off plate (on the rear hole on each case).
Tach? Depends upon the year of the car, and if you are using a stock tach. Prior to '62 (guess on my part) the tach sender was a unit that sat between the distributor body and cap, and generated a signal to drive the tach. '62 and up simply took a pulse signal off the coil (-) terminal. That's for stock tachs. Aftermarket tachs: you will have to research the specific application.

Just to be clear, 62 and up took a signal off the coil to a electronic sender, then the tach.

if there is a hole in the pass side head rear plate, it may be for a heater hose - some A/C installations forced you to take the heater hose that would normally connect to the top of the water manifold to the back of the head instead.
